Hi! I’m Rebecca, lover of Jesus, my hubby, good hot tea and great conversations! I claim a little town in western North Carolina as my home, but Texas has stolen my country-girl heart.

Hey Fellow Readers!

What do your reading goals look like this year? I cut this year’s reading goal in half in attempt to devote more time to other pursuits, because it feels like I only have so much time. But here we are, six and a half weeks into the new year, and not only am I spending time doing the other things, but I am also 1/3 of the way through my reading goal. I’ve been mildly shocked. To that end… here are a  few of the things I’m reading!

Lady Darby Series - I went to download the next book in this murder mystery series today, and realized with great disappointment that I had finished the last available one last night! I read all 7 this year. They were so good, y’all! I can’t wait for the next release on April 7th!

Get Out of Your Head: Stoping the Spiral of Toxic Thoughts - If you've never read anything by Jennie Allen, now is the time to jump in! This book is excellent. It's all about taking our thoughts captive and combating those mental spirals. Allen also addresses the balance between seeking care for mental health and the ability we each have to take control of our lives.

Killing Monsters: Why Children Need Fantasy, Super Heroes, and Make Believe Violence - I've had a running list of parenting book recommendations for years. I have no clue where this recommendation came from, but it is excellent for anyone who works with children, who wonders how violence affects them, or who creates anything for any age group.

The Montessori Toddler: A Parent’s Guide to Raising a Curious and Responsible Human Being - I just happened to pick up this audiobook after browsing through suggestions for me on Hoopla. (Who wouldn’t after reading that subtitle.) I know nothing about the Montessori method, but am finding it similar to the RIE method. Sometimes just reading or listening to books about the stages my children are in helps me approach them more positively.

No Bad Kids: Toddler Discipline Without Shame - This book came at the recommendation of a good friend, and the author, Janet Lansbury, is beloved by many. It's a collection of essays on parenting toddlers with the RIE method. I've read other books on this method before and have implemented many aspects of it in my parenting.

Design Mom: How to Live with Kids: A Room-by-Room Guide - Okay, okay, I'm not currently reading this one, but I HAD to include it. This was also on my aforementioned "Parenting Books" list. It's the best book I've read all year, and it’s beautiful. I would definitely read the physical book. It talks about how to have a home that is designed in a way to function with kids, but can still be enjoyed by adults. Beyond decor, Blair writes about creating a home that cultivates a family's values. It was thought provoking and insightful. Caveat Emptor: I've already made several trips to Home Goods and Target as a result of this book!

In other reading news: I purchased my husband a Kindle for Christmas. (Did you know the most recent Paperwhite model is waterproof?!?) I don’t know WHAT I’ve been waiting on! He has been enjoying reading much more, and we’ve spent many pleasant evenings sitting in the same room and reading! It’s definitely my dream world. And of course, now he is teaching me all the tech-y things I should be doing in my reading life, like syncing my Kindle with Goodreads! It’s a game changer.

I am downright giddy to be writing to you in this space for the second time this month, and if you’ve made it this far, perhaps you have sensed my excitement. I’d love to hear what you’re reading - and any fun reading life updates.

XOXO,

Rebecca
